Mason County couple get bridge souvenir in their bedroom

By The Associated Press

MASON, W.Va. -- A West Virginia couple got an unexpected souvenir from the demolition of the Pomeroy Mason Bridge when a piece of it landed in their spare bedroom.

When workers imploded the top half of a pier Wednesday, the blast sent a football-sized piece through the siding of Steve and Kelly Stewart's house in Mason. Kelly Stewart says the piece landed in a bean bag chair and missed her by a few feet.

She says she was standing in the room filming the demolition.

The pier on West Virginia's side of the Ohio River was the last major remnant of the bridge that linked Mason with Pomeroy, Ohio. A new bridge opened in December.

The new bridge has opened and the old bridge awaits its removal.

What happen to the new bridge? Why did the work on the new bridge stop? I drive over the old one all the time and am afraid that it will fall. The bridge on the Ohio River in porterfield and parkersburg WV. is done now and it started after they did. So what is the hold up?
