Overview

The Franklin Railroad Overpass (MO 5) is a "bridge over nothing." The MKT Railroad is now turned into the Katy Trail, which is a state wide hiking trail. In other words, this huge overpass structure serves no other purpose than bridging a walking path. The overpass itself is quite peculiar, complete with a "grand staircase" type structure built in to its main span. The staircase is a carryover from the railroad days when the overpass allowed people to go from the railroad below to the road above or vice versa.
