Plaque of 1914 bridge

The 1914 bridge had a history of its own. In 1955, flooding wiped out the west approach and a rental bridge took its place while a new approach was being built. In 1995, a large gap was found between the spandrels of the bridge, forcing county officials to close the bridge permanently. The cause of the gap was the unsettling of the ground in the Shell Rock River. Since it was impossible to repair the bridge and reopen it to traffic, the bridge was torn down in 1995 and replaced with the current structure. However, at the request of the community of Marble Rock, a section of railing, which included this plaque, was removed from the old span prior to its removal and was reestablished on the gounds of the local museum and park, where it sits today.
